SUMMARY:SUPPORTING LUNG HEALTH
DESCRIPTION:NLPSPA and CARP NL\, in partnership with the NL Smokers’ Helpline\, will offer an information session that intends to raise awareness about the health risks of smoking and vaping\, promote smoke-free living\, and support people who want to quit. This is NOT a workshop to convince anyone to quit smoking/vaping (a good result\, if it does)\, but to raise awareness of the harmful effects of nicotine addiction and to provide alternatives to this addiction and what resources are available to help in the journey of recovery. While you may not think this applies to you as an individual\, most people know someone who is smoking or vaping\, especially amongst our younger generation\, and this will provide you with information to message the harm to one’s health and to share with anyone who is being exposed to second hand smoke/residue. If time allows\, the presentation will also include a guided meditation or a single breathing exercise. \nWhen: Tuesday\, January 20\, 2026 \nTime: 2:00 PM-3:30 PM \nVenue: Online Presentation by Zoom\, meeting room will open at 1:45 PM \nIn recognition of National Non-Smoking Week January 18-24\, 2026\, we are pleased to welcome Susan Haskell\, Outreach Facilitator of the Newfoundland and Labrador Smokers’ Helpline.  Susan is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Tobacco Educator with decades of experience in respiratory care.  Her presentation will include the topics of nicotine addiction\, health risks of smoking and vaping\, and share evidence-based information that can help you or your loved ones and friends to reduce/quit\, should that be your decision.  Susan will also demonstrate the Nicotine Replacement Products that are currently subsidized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program and tell you about the scope of free and confidential services that the SHL offers throughout our province.  There will be an opportunity for questions.   \nRegistration is required. All are welcome. \nTo register for this event\, please click the link below: \nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Jfd52JvxRqW_oY7m2zP2tQ

SUMMARY:Town Hall Meeting with Seniors Advocate
DESCRIPTION:CARP NL\, NLPSPA\, and the participating associations of the NL Seniors Coalition are pleased to host a public Town Hall with the Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors’ Advocate\, Susan Walsh. \nThe Seniors’ Advocate\, Susan Walsh\, will highlight key findings from the Seniors’ Report 2025\, providing a comprehensive profile of the wellbeing of seniors in Newfoundland and Labrador. The report includes indicators related to health\, health care\, finances\, housing\, transportation\, and safety and protection. This town hall will include an opportunity to share your experiences\, ask questions\, and offer ideas on issues that matter to you. Your input will help inform the work of the Newfoundland and Labrador Office of the Seniors’ Advocate. \nAttendance (both in-person and online) is free and open to the public; however\, registration is required. Tea/coffee/a light snack will be provided for in-person attendees. Doors open at 1:30 PM. \nIf attending in-person\, please register with the Eventbrite link: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/town-hall-meeting-with-the-seniors-advocate-tickets-1982983967427?aff=oddtdtcreator \nIf attending virtually\, please register with the Zoom link: \nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tkOU3whITZGR7-hOYogEWA

SUMMARY:Staying Engaged in Retirement & Continuing Your Growth

The next workshop will take place\, as follows: \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026 \nTime: 2:00-4:00 PM \nRetirement isn’t just about stepping away from work — it’s about deciding what comes next. Whether it’s part-time work\, mentoring\, or giving back to your community\, participants will reflect on what meaningful engagement looks like for them\, and how to approach this next stage with intention. \nIn this session\, we will also examine the financial side of staying active in retirement\, including how earned income may affect benefits\, taxes\, and long-term plans\, as well as the trade-offs between paid work and volunteer opportunities.
