At the recent event on “Ageism” sponsored jointly by NLPSPA and C.A.R.P. NL, some questions and comments occurred about the Choosing Wisely approach to health care within Canada. At that time, I indicated I would do a bit of research and advise where you might find more information to inform your understanding of this direction and campaign.
Choosing Wisely Canada is a Canadian-based health education campaign launched on April 2, 2014 under the leadership of Wendy Levinson, in partnership with the Canadian Medical Association, and based at Unity Health Toronto and the University of Toronto. The campaign aims to help clinicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures, and to assist physicians and patients in making informed and effective choices to ensure high quality care.
There is quite a lot of detailed information on the Choosing Wisely Canada website that is available for your review.
